Hearing Protection Radio question by andrew_loi: After loud noise exposures, why do ears feel painful when hearing just normal soft noises and do not recover?
My ears were alright until they were exposed to loud noises (concert) for 2 hours. My ears seemed want to explode when hearing the crowd shouting and clapping hands.
Now both my ears are very sensitive to even normal sounds – like people talking, television and radio sounds. I need to wear earplugs as a protection. My ears will feel painful even if I talk only a bit louder, or hearing other people talking just a bit louder. I need to wear earplugs almost all the time.
It gets a little worse this time. After having ear pain from normal noise exposures for a few days, my ears still feel painful even with my earplugs on. The pain is mild but seems hard to recover.
Are my ears having any infection or is my nerve endings on the cochlear damaged or the pressure in my ears could not be balanced? Is there any cure for this condition? Is this dangerous for my ears? I wear earplugs most of the time but my ears do not really recover from pains (for months) and are sensitive to noise.

You may have torn your ear drum. It’s not very common for concerts. But it can happen. See a doctor, When you tear your ear drum every sound seem to be extremely loud and painful.

These pro ears work very well at noise suppression. The manufacturer has significantly scrimped on the basic design. The part holding the two ear pieces is made out of thin plastic. It breaks very easily. This renders the unit more or less useless as it can not be worn. They offer to replace the unit for a small shipping charge, but the part is replaced with the same weak piece, which does not last very long. My replacement broke within two weeks. They should have spent a few more pennies on the plastic holding the earpieces.

This noise reducing headset is well-built, comfortable and the dark green color is appealing. Most importantly, they function well to muffle the loudest noises. I recommended these to a friend who is also pleased with them.
